Production

MacLachlan revealed to Vulture that the development of the film had started six years prior.[1] The principal photography took place in June 2022 in MacLachlan's hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.[2]

Release

The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2023.[3] Shortly after, Sony Pictures Classics acquired worldwide distribution rights to the film.[4]

Reception

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 92% of 26 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.6/10.[5] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 82 out of 100, based on 6 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".[6]
