African Chinese are an ethnic group of Chinese with partial or total ancestry from any of the ethnic groups of Africa.

By 2020, there were an estimated 500,000 Africans living in China, with the majority residing in Guangzhou.[1][2]

Education in China

Development Reimagined reports that China hosted 74,011 students from 24 African countries in 2017, thanks to overall growth of 258% from 2011 to 2017. By 2017, the top African student population were from Ghana, Nigeria, Mauritius, Kenya, and Sudan.[3]

In 2018, the Chinese government announced at the triennial Forum on China-Africa Cooperation that China would increase its scholarship offerings to African students from 30,000 in 2015 to 50,000. According to the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, 81,562 African students studied in China in 2018, a 770% increase compared to 1996. China is now the second-largest African student-hosting country, behind France.[4]

In 2020, according to UNESCO's Global Annual Education Report, China offered 12,000 university scholarships to African students for the next academic year, to support their studies at Chinese universities.[5]

By 2022, China is predicted to host more Nigerians than either the UK or the US.[3]
