Henderson Hall is a historic Grade II listed building in Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne, England.[1] The building was part of Newcastle University's residence buildings.

History

The old hall was built from 1833 to 1839, and the new hall was built from 1929 to 1932.[2] In 1932, the building was opened as halls of residence for Newcastle University.[3] On June 26, 1996, the hall was designated a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England by The Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England as part of an effort to protect the historic environment of England.[4] By 2023, the halls had been "empty for a few years".[5]

On 8 June 2023, a large fire started in the loft of the building, which was vacant at the time.[6] It took over 50 firefighters and 10 fire engines to control the fire over several hours.[7] The building suffered extensive damage to the roof. A person was arrested on suspicion of arson.[8]
