Priolo Gargallo (Sicilian: Priolu) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Syracuse, Sicily (southern Italy). It is about 190 kilometres (120 mi) southeast of Palermo and about 13 kilometres (8 mi) northwest of Syracuse.
The name Priolo Gargallo comes from the nobleman Marquis Gargallo who owned land in this part of Sicily.
Priolo Gargallo borders the following municipalities: Melilli, Syracuse, Solarino, Sortino.
Economy
Priolo Gargallo is the location of the Priolo Gargallo complex, which encompasses the two refineries ISAB NORD and ISAB SUD owned by the Russian conglomerate Lukoil. These refineries are interconnected via a network of pipelines and collectively possess a total processing capacity of 16 million metric tons per year.[3] With substantial production capabilities and prime geographic positioning, the Priolo Gargallo complex plays a crucial role in ensuring energy stability and supply in the region, contributing to both local and international energy markets.
