Sanjay Dina Patil (born 16 January 1969) is an Indian politician from Mumbai. currently 18th Lok Sabha Member. Member of Parliament. He was elected to Maharashtra State assembly in 2004 from Bhandup. In 2009, he was elected to 15th Lok Sabha from Mumbai North East constituency in Maharashtra state in India, as a Nationalist Congress Party candidate.[2][3] He lost the reelection for the same seat in 2014. He was succeeded by Kirit Somaiya of the Bharatiya Janata Party of India.

Sanjay Dina Patil joined Shiv Sena on 4 October 2019.[4]

Early Life & Background

Sanjay Dina Patil was born in Mumbai into a political family. His father, Dina Bama Patil, was a well-known leader and former MLA, while his mother, Manorama Patil, served multiple terms as a municipal councillor. This strong political background influenced his early interest in public life and leadership.[5]

He pursued higher education and completed his Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree.[5]

Political Career

  • 2004 – State Politics Sanjay Dina Patil entered active politics with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and was elected to the Maharashtra State Assembly from Bhandup.
  • 2009–2014 – Member of Parliament In the 2009 General Elections, he won the Mumbai North East Lok Sabha seat as an NCP candidate and served as an MP in the 15th Lok Sabha.[6][7]
  • 2019 – Shift to Shiv Sena (UBT) After being associated with NCP for several years, he joined the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) in 2019.
  • 2024 – 18th Lok Sabha Contesting on the Shiv Sena (UBT) ticket, he won the Mumbai North East Lok Sabha constituency with a significant margin, defeating BJP’s Mihir Kotecha. With this victory, he returned to Parliament after a decade, becoming a two-time MP.
