Shamil (Persian: شميل)[a] is a village in Shamil Rural District of Shamil District, Bandar Abbas County, Hormozgan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the district[4] and the rural district.[5]

At the 2006 National Census, its population was 1,548 in 358 households, when it was in Takht District.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 1,891 people in 474 households.[7] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 1,455 people in 436 households.[2]

After the census, the rural district was separated from the district in the establishment of Shamil District, which was divided into two rural districts.[4]
