Soman Rana

Indian para Olympian

Soman Rana (16 January 1983) is an Indian para athlete from Meghalaya. He competes in men's shot put F57. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris, his second Olympics.[1] He is currently supported by OGQ.

Early life

Rana is from Shillong, Meghalaya. He is employed with the Indian Army as a Havaldar. He trains at Army Paralympic Node at BEG and Centre, Kirkee, Pune. He lost his right leg in a mine blast in December 2006.[2][3]

Career

Rana finished fourth at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Earlier, he represented India at the Dubai 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in the men's shot put F56/57.[4] In 2021, he won a gold at the Tunis World Para Athletics Grand Prix.[3] He won a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China.[5]
