Yang Jianhou (1839–1917), or Yang Chien-hou, was the younger son of the founder of Yang-style tai chi, Yang Luchan, and a well known teacher of the soft style martial art of tai chi.[1] Yang's older brother, Yang Banhou, was the senior of Jianhou's generation, and also an important instructor of tai chi.[2] Yang Jianhou's sons Yang Chengfu and Yang Shaohou were also famous teachers of tai chi.[1][3]

Note:
  • This lineage tree is not comprehensive, but depicts those considered the 'gate-keepers' & most recognised individuals in each generation of Yang-style.
  • Although many styles were passed down to respective descendants of the same family, the lineage focused on is that of the Yang style & not necessarily that of the family.
