William James "Count" Basie (Red Bank, New Jersey, 1904ko abuztuaren 21a - Hollywood, Florida, 1984ko apirilaren 26a) estatubatuar jazz piano-jotzaile, organo-jotzaile eta musikagilea izan zen.

Ama izan zuen lehen piano-eskolak ematen, eta hamabost urte zituenetik instrumentu horretan aritu zen esklusiboki.1920 inguruan Harlemen kokatu zen eta jazzarekin harremanetan jarri zen. 1925 eta 1927 artean hainbat bira egin zituen.

1929an Kansas Cityra joan zen eta piano-jotzaile sartu zen Bennie Motenen taldean. 1935ean Morten hil ondoren, taldeko zenbait kide Basierekin geratu ziren. Taldeko kideen artean Lester Young zegoen.

1936an Chicagon kokatu zen. Bere taldeak bi saxo tenore erabiltzea bezalako berrikuntzak sartu zituen. 1936ko urrian John Hammond ekoizlearekin grabatzen hasi ziren.

1937an New Yorkera itzuli zen. Han bere taldeak blues abestiekin batera jo zuen. New Yorken swing garaia igaro zen. Baita talde handien lehia ere.

Gerra amaitu ondoren, Basiek taldea desegin zuen, baina 1950eko hamarkadan berriro elkartu ziren Europan jotzeko.
