John Dominic Crossan (lahir 17 Februari 1934)^[1] adalah seorang sarjana Perjanjian Baru, sejarawan gereja perdana, dan mantan pendeta Katolik Irlandia-Amerika yang memproduksi karya-karya populer dan terpelajar. Penelitiannya berfokus pada Yesus dalam sejarah, antropologi Mediterania Kuno dan dunia Perjanjian Baru dan aplikasi pendekatan hermenetikal pasca-modern terhadap Alkitab.

Who Killed Jesus?

Who Killed Jesus? ditulis oleh Crossan untuk membuktikan bahwa pemahaman tentang pembunuhan Yesus oleh kaum Yahudi merupakan pemikiran yang salah dan berbahaya. Buku ini juga memberikan pertanyaan-pertanyaan teologis yang meragukan kebenaran dari penebusan Yesus atas dosa-dosa umat manusia. Selain itu, buku ini juga mempertanyakan dampak terhadap keimanan Kristen jika sebenarnya Yesus tidak dibangkitkan dari kematian.^[2]

Dalam bukunya ini, Crossan juga membuktikan bahwa penyaliban dan kebangkitan Yesus hanyalah sebuah cerita yang dikarang oleh para misionaris. Sementara kejadian aslinya adalah sebuah fiksi. Crossan menyatakan bahwa cerita tersebut dibuat hanya untuk memenuhi kepentingan misi Kristen.^[3]
