Messerschmitt Bf 110 (disebut BF 110 atau ME 110[2]) merupakan pesawat bertipe pesawat tempur berat (Zerstorer / Perusak) yang dirancang tahun 1930-an atas permintaan Reichsluftfahrtministerium. Pada mulanya pesawat ini ditugaskan untuk mengawal pesawat pengebom pada saat invasi Polandia dan Prancis, BF 110 pun dapat membabat pesawat-pesawat Angkatan Udara Polandia dan Prancis. Akan tetapi saat mereka bertempur di langit Inggris, BF 110 malah dibuat babak belur oleh Supermarine Spitfire dan Hawker Hurricane yang mempunyai manuver lebih gesit.
Akhirnya pesawat ini ditarik dari Pertempuran Britania. Setelah beberapa pertimbangan, BF 110 masuk dinas Sayap Tempur Malam (Nachtjäger) dan beberapa diantaranya menjadi pesawat serang darat (Jagdbomber atau Jabo). Saat dinas di Nachtjäger, BF 110 mengalami modifikasi berupa penambahan radar Lichtenstein FuG 220 dan FuG 202 sekaligus penambahan opsional 2x Kanon MG/FF kaliber 20mm dibagian belakang badan pesawat yang dipasang 60° yang diberi nama Schräge Musik. Performa BF 110 saat "jaga malam" bisa dibilang memuaskan, banyak pesawat pengebom Royal Air Force ditembak jatuh saat melakukan misi malam, hingga melahirkan seorang penerbang ulung Nachtjäger bernama Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer dengan total bunuh 121 dalam 164 misi.[3]
