Susan B. Anthony

Susan B. Anthony (lahir Susan Anthony ; 15 Februari 1820 – 13 Maret 1906) adalah seorang reformis sosial Amerika dan aktivis hak-hak perempuan yang memainkan peran penting dalam gerakan hak pilih perempuan . Lahir dari keluarga Quaker yang berkomitmen pada kesetaraan sosial, dia mengumpulkan petisi anti-perbudakan pada usia 17 tahun. Pada tahun 1856, dia menjadi agen negara bagian New York untuk American Anti-Slavery Society .

Pada tahun 1851, dia bertemu Elizabeth Cady Stanton , yang menjadi teman dan rekan kerja seumur hidupnya dalam kegiatan reformasi sosial, terutama di bidang hak-hak perempuan . Bersama-sama mereka mendirikan New York Women's State Temperance Society pada tahun 1852 setelah Anthony dilarang berbicara di konferensi pertarakan karena dia perempuan. Namun, persepsi publik tentang dirinya berubah secara radikal selama masa hidupnya. Ulang tahunnya yang ke-80 dirayakan di Gedung Putih atas undangan Presiden William McKinley . Dia menjadi warga negara wanita pertama yang digambarkan pada mata uang AS ketika potretnya muncul pada koin dolar tahun 1979 .
