Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) ialah laman web yang disediakan oleh NASA dan Universiti Teknologi Michigan (MTU). Menurut laman web itu, "Setiap hari gambar atau foto alam semesta kita yang berbeza ditampilkan, bersama dengan penjelasan ringkas yang ditulis oleh ahli astronomi profesional."[1] Foto tersebut tidak semestinya sesuai dengan kejadian cakerawala pada hari yang tepat ketika ia dipaparkan, dan gambar kadang-kadang diulang.[2] Walau bagaimanapun, gambar dan keterangannya sering kali berkaitan dengan peristiwa semasa dalam astronomi dan penerokaan angkasa lepas. Teks ini mempunyai beberapa pautan ke lebih banyak gambar dan laman web untuk maklumat lebih lanjut. Gambar-gambar itu adalah gambar spektrum yang dapat dilihat, gambar yang diambil pada panjang gelombang yang tidak dapat dilihat dan dipaparkan dengan warna palsu, rakaman video, animasi, konsep artis, atau mikrograf yang berkaitan dengan ruang atau kosmologi. Semasa APOD bermula, ia hanya mendapat 14 paparan halaman pada hari pertama. Pada tahun 2012, ia telah mendapat lebih dari satu bilion paparan gambar. APOD juga diterjemahkan ke dalam 21 bahasa setiap hari.[4]

APOD dibentangkan dalam mesyuarat Persatuan Astronomi Amerika pada tahun 1996.[5] Amalan penggunaan hiperteks[2] dianalisis dalam makalah pada tahun 2000.[6] Ia menerima Anugerah Web Sains/Teknologi Scientific American pada tahun 2001.[7] Pada tahun 2002, laman web ini dipaparkan dalam wawancara dengan Nemiroff di CNN Saturday Morning News.[8] Pada tahun 2003, kedua-dua pengarang menerbitkan sebuah buku berjudul The Universe: 365 Days[9] dari Harry N. Abrams, yang merupakan koleksi gambar terbaik dari APOD sebagai buku gaya "meja kopi" kulit keras. APOD ialah Koleksi Pilihan dalam Majalah D-Lib terbitan November 2004.[10]

Semasa penutupan kerajaan persekutuan Amerika Syarikat pada tahun 2013, APOD meneruskan perkhidmatannya di laman cermin.[11][12]

Dr. Robert J. Nemiroff dan Dr. Jerry T. Bonnell dianugerahkan Anugerah Klumpke-Roberts 2015 oleh Persatuan Astronomi Pasifik "kerana sumbangan yang luar biasa untuk pemahaman dan penghayatan astronomi orang ramai" untuk karya mereka di APOD.[13][14]
