Avant-garde (/ˌævɒ̃ˈɡɑːrd/;[2] Perancis: [avɑ̃ɡaʁd];[3] dari Perancis, 'advance guard' atau 'vanguard', secara harfiah 'fore-guard')[4] ialah individu atau karya yang bersifat eksperimental, radikal, atau bukan ortodoks dan rasa hormat kepada seni, budaya, atau masyarakat.[4][5][6] Ia sering dicirikan oleh inovasi estetik dan ketidakterimaan awal.[7]
