Andre slag om Gaza ble utkjempet mellom 17. og 19. april 1917 etter Egyptiske Ekspedisjonsstyrkes nederlag i det første slag om Gaza i mars samme år under kampene i Sinai og Palestina i første verdenskrig. Gaza ble forsvart av den sterkt forskansede osmanske garnisonen, som var blitt vesentlig forsterket etter det første slaget. Den bemannet byens forsvar og en linje av sterke skanser, som strakk seg østover langs veien fra Gaza til Beersheba. Forsvarerne ble angrepet av den Østlige styrkes tre infanteridivisjoner med støtte fra to beredne divisjoner, men forsvarernes styrke, deres forskansninger og artilleristøtten desimerte angriperne.

Som følge av den Egyptiske Ekspedisjonsstyrkes seier i slaget ved Romani, slaget ved Magdhaba og slaget ved Rafah, som var blitt utkjempet mellom august 1916 og januar 1917, hadde ekspedisjonsstyrken trengt den beseirede osmanske hæren østover. Ekspedisjonsstyrken besatte det egyptiske området på Sinaihalvøya, og krysset grensen inn i det osmanske rikets sørlige Palestina-region. Resultatet av det første slaget om Gaza hadde imidlertid vært så nær et nederlag som man kunne komme. I de tre ukene mellom de to slagene var stillingene ved Gaza blitt kraftig forsterket mot et frontalangrep. De sterke stillingene og befestningene viste seg umulige å innta under det katastrofale frontangrepet, hvor ekspedisjonsstyrkens tap i overskred 50 % uten større gevinster.
