Samuel Dashiell Hammett (27.5. 1894 – 10.1. 1961) bio je američki pisac hardboiled detektivski romana i priča. Među znamenitim likovima koje je stvorio su Sam Spade (The Maltese Falcon), Nick iNora Charles (The Thin Man), i the Continental Op (Red Harvest, The Dain Curse).
