Vinton skivdebuterade 1959 med "First Impression". Hans genombrott kom 1962 med "Roses Are Red (My Love)" och mellan 1962 och 1980 hade han inte mindre än 47 låtar på den amerikanska singellistan Billboard Hot 100.
