The Pains of Being Pure at Heart var ett indiepopband från New York.[1] Bandnamnet kommer från en opublicerad barnberättelse med samma namn, skriven av en vän till sångaren Kip Berman. Gruppens första utgivning var en självbetitlad EP-skiva som kom ut 2007.[2] Deras självbetitlade debutalbum utgavs 3 februari 2009 på Slumberland Records.[3] Debutalbumet nådde plats 9 på Billboards Heatseekers-lista.[4] 22 september 2009 släppte gruppen sin andra EP-skiva, Higher Than the Stars. Gruppen släppte 29 mars 2011 sitt andra studioalbum, Belong.
Gruppen upplöstes 2019.[5]
