Amaryllidaceae Asparagales takımına bağlı bir bitki familyasıdır.^[3] Amaryllidaceae, tek çenekli Asparagales takımında yer alan otsu, çoğunlukla çok yıllık ve soğanlı (nadiren rizomlu) çiçekli bitkilerden oluşan bir familyadır.

Familya adını Amaryllis cinsinden alır ve genellikle nergis zambağı familyası olarak bilinir. Yapraklar genellikle doğrusaldır ve çiçekler genellikle biseksüel ve simetriktir, gövde üzerinde şemsiyeler halinde düzenlenmiştir. Taç ve çanak yapraklar tepal olarak farklılaşmamıştır ve bunlar tabanda birleşerek bir çiçek tüpüne dönüşebilir. Bazıları ayrıca bir korona sergiler. Alil sülfür bileşikleri soğan alt familyasının (Allioideae) karakteristik kokusunu üretir.^[4]

İlk olarak 1805 yılında oluşturulan familya, günümüzde yaklaşık 70-75 cinse,[3][4] 17 kabileye ve Agapanthoideae (Agapanthus), Allioideae (soğan ve frenk soğanı) ve Amaryllidoideae (nergis zambağı, nergis, kardelen) olmak üzere üç alt familyaya bölünmüş yaklaşık 1600 tür içerir. Zaman içinde çok fazla yeniden yapılanma görmüş ve çeşitli zamanlarda ilgili Liliaceae ile birleştirilmiştir. 2009 yılından bu yana, filogenetiğe dayanan ve bir dizi diğer eski familyayı da içeren çok geniş bir görüş hakimdir.^[5]

Bu familya dünyanın tropikal ve subtropikal bölgelerinde bulunur ve birçok süs bahçesi bitkisi ve sebze içerir.
