Government Degree College Gurez Bandipora is an autonomous co-educational degree college situated in the Gurez area of Bandipore district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The college is affiliated with the University of Kashmir,[1] Hazratbal Srinagar and is recognised by the University Grants Commission of India under articles 2(f) and 12(b) of UGC Act, 1956.[2] The college is accredited with NAAC Grade - B.[citation needed]

Established in 2008, Government Degree College Gurez has become a prominent institution for higher education in the northern region of Jammu and Kashmir. Permanently affiliated with the University of Kashmir, the college provides undergraduate programs in Arts and Science under CBCS and, starting from 2022, follows the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP). Recognized under section 2 (f) 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956, in 2011, it holds a significant position among Government Colleges.[3]

Situated in Wanpora of Gurez Valley, amid the high-altitude Himalayan ranges, the college covers an extensive campus area of 83.5 kanals. The region is home to the Shina-speaking Dard tribe. Offering 11 courses, including professional ones, the college caters to students from diverse backgrounds.[citation needed]

Emphasizing holistic development, the institution exposes students to various events like debates, conferences, seminars, essay competitions, and cultural programs. The well-maintained playground encourages student participation in sports-related activities. The college infrastructure includes an Academic Block, Multi-purpose Sports Hall, Canteen, and Residential Huts for staff.[4]

The Academic Block features seven large, fully furnished lecture theatres, four science labs, a library, a conference hall, staff rooms, NSS office, Sports office, administrative office, and a Computer Lab equipped with 15 internet-connected computers. The library boasts a rich collection of over 6 thousand books and journals, complemented by a Reading Hall and Browsing Centre. To facilitate transportation for distant students, the college offers a bus facility.[citation needed]
