"Samo ku waar" (Somali pronunciation: [sæmɞ ku wɑːr]; Arabic: حياة طويلة مع السلام; English: Live in Eternal Peace[1]) is the national anthem of Somaliland, a self-declared republic that is internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia.[2]
History
State of Somaliland
The State of Somaliland used a composition written by local musicians and transcribed by British bandmaster R.A.Y. Mitchell of the band of The Royal Highland Fusiliers as its national anthem during its period of independence between 26 June 1960 and 1 July 1960, when it was absorbed into the Somali Republic.[3][4]
Republic of Somaliland
The current anthem was written and composed by Hassan Sheikh Mumin,[5] a famous Somali playwright and composer. The anthem was adopted in 1997 and is sung in Somali.[6]
