Temelji se na istoimenom romanu irskog književnika Liama O'Flahertyja koji je bio Fordov daleki rođak. Radnja je smještena u Dublin za vrijeme irskog rata za nezavisnost. Naslovni protagonist, koga tumači Victor McLaglen, je bivši pripadnik IRA-e koji, nastojeći sebi i svojoj djevojci osigurati novac za put u Ameriku, svog najboljeg prijatelja izdaje britanskim vlastima, te se potom suoči s progonom bivših drugova i vlastite savjesti.
The Informer je osvojio četiri Oscara - John Ford je osvojio Oscar za najbolju režiju; Victor McLaglen Oscar za najboljeg glumca, a Max Steiner za najbolju muziku. Dudley Nichols je osvojio Oscar za najbolji adaptirani scenario, ali ga je odbio primiti, što je bio prvi takav slučaj u historiji Oscara.
